The surface of the conveyor belt is made rough and tight so that the object placed on it does not slip when the belt moves or stops due to inertia. The rough surface increases friction and therefore helps to hold objects more firmly. The surface located just below the belt in this version of the conveyor belt is made up of a series of rollers. The rollers are stacked so that the belt barely sags.
In some cases, the surface of the conveyor belt is not the only characteristic to consider when selecting the type of belt for the application. Sometimes it is necessary to physically modify conveyor belts to achieve the desired result, including adding dowels and painting or printing, as mentioned above, but may also include some of the alterations, as described below. It could also reduce the amount of surface contact with intermediate rollers, ultimately reducing the efficiency of the conveyor belt system. General-purpose conveyor belts come in a variety of materials, including polyester, polyurethane, nitrile and PVC.
Conveyor belts can be found everywhere, from commercial bakeries to retail warehouses to car assembly lines. Conveyor belts are generally quite similar in construction and consist of a metal structure with rollers at each end of a flat metal bed. A Depreux conveyor belt is made of two layers of durable cover that intersperse the interior construction. This makes it especially beneficial when the conveyor is located on a slope that has no additional space under the conveyor.
The longest conveyor belt is that of the Bou Craa phosphate mine in Western Sahara (1973, 98 km in 11 sections). Rubber conveyor belts are commonly used to transport items with irregular undersurfaces, small items that would fall between the rollers (for example, for applications that may require an “unorthodox” width greater than the length, type of conveyor), modular conveyor belts will accomplish that task much more easily. If adjusted to the characteristics of the material being transported, a Depreux belt from West River Conveyors will provide trouble-free service over long distances. Sanitary washing conveyor belts are used on items that come from extreme temperatures, such as freezers and ovens.
Nowadays there are different types of conveyor belts that have been created to transport different types of materials available in PVC and rubber materials. Screw sockets are an economical and efficient way to control belt tension on relatively short conveyors and, for many, are the simplest and most standard collection option. These pulleys, when used, will reduce spills and maintain a constant cross-sectional area along the conveyor belt. Stores usually have conveyor belts on the checkout counter to move shopping items, and may use box dividers in this process.
